Vincent Van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890) generally considered the greatest after Rembrandt, and one of the greatest of the Post-Impressionists.
This brooch was inspired by his famous painting “Fifteen Sunflowers in a Vase” (1888).
The sunflower symbolizes adoration, affection, constancy, glory and gratitude and the solar wheel. It is a Christian symbol of religious obedience, as all day it faces the sun (Christ).
Enameled 24K antique gold-plate over pewter & brass.
