Description
With the patronage of Madame de Pompadour, the art of Falconet enjoyed great success. His art was combined of both elegant and refined forms, as well as sensual ones at times, as for example the Bather, of which a marble copy was exhibited at the 1757 Salon. The graceful form of this slender woman, with sloping shoulders and a small bust, is a frequent motif in Falconet’s art.
The ingenuous expression of her face and her lowered eyelids, are equally constant features of the sculptor’s canon of feminine beauty within the repertoire of his “boudoir works”.
