Inspired by the Bee motif embroidered on the canopy of Napoleon 1st’s Throne, Jean-Franois Garneray (1755-1837): Napoleon 1er Empereur des Franais, Roi d’Italie. c. 1805.
The Bee – symbol of immortality and resurrection, was considered the oldest emblem of the sovereigns of France.
It was chosen as the link between the new dynasty to the very origins of France.
