Les Chats de Dubout (The Cats by Dubout)
When the renowned French illustrator and caricaturist Albert Dubout puts his pen to paper to sketch his feline companions, he depicts his cat as well as we all know them: cats in multitudes and cats all alone, cats in mischief and cats at rest, cats with their kittens and cats in love, cats on the prowl and cats at their best.
In this statue by Albert Dubout, a black cat has turned his head around and lifted his tail revealing “a third eye”. It is a humorous statue which is sure to draw a chuckle from anyone who looks at it. The comedy is enhanced by the wide-eyed look of surprise on the kitty and the exaggerated stiffness of his tail. The texture of the statue’s fur is rough, reminiscent of the quick pen strokes originally drawn by Mr. Dubout.
