Description
This bookmark is adapted from the reverse side of an altar cross of copper gilt and champlève enamel, made in Spain in the late twelfth century and now in the Museum’s collection. In the center medallion of the cross is an image of the Lamb of God, flanked by the Greek letters alpha and omega, signifying the beginning and the end. The arms of the cross are decorated with a foliate scroll design.
