Description
Sculptor Francois Pompon (French, 1855 – 1933), who spent fifteen years as a stone carver in the studio of Auguste Rodin, won critical success for his plaster model of this polar bear. He subsequently made a number of replicas of the sculpture in various sizes and media, one of which is in the New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection. Our reproduction is cast from a direct mold of the original.Cast marble, hand finished. Available in large (length 18 in., height 9 1/2 in.).
