Description
Toward the end of French sculptor Auguste Rodin’s career, Rodin completed several sculptures which used the Hand as a central character in his expression of Creation. Here we see a large, strong hand in the process of creating the original woman and man. The hand powerfully moulding the matter from which the human being is created represents the divinity bringing forth humanity from emptiness. It is also a symbolic image of the artist inventing a world. It is an expressive, powerful and organic sculpture imbued with a force both strong and gentle. Rodin modeled this sculpture circa 1898.
